GUEST ARTISTS

Kate Oltmann

Kate Oltmann is a contemporary Western artist living and working in Fortine, Montana, just outside Glacier National Park. Her family’s roots in the region stretch back generations, including ancestors who homesteaded in what is now Glacier National Park and helped build its historic ranger cabins and bridges. This deep connection to the land, its wildlife, and the communities surrounding it is central to her artistic practice.

Oltmann holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a BFA from Sonoma State University. Working primarily in oil, cyanotype, and mixed media, she combines Western imagery with traditional quilt patterns, drawing inspiration from the region’s quilting heritage, local quilt fairs, and the generations of women whose creativity and labor helped shape these communities. Her work explores the relationship between the wild and the domestic, celebrating the stories, traditions, and enduring spirit of the American West.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States and Canada, but her connection to northwest Montana remains at the heart of what she creates.
